Experts say high soybean quality increases demand for farmers

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-  Region 8 farmers were getting some extra information at Arkansas State University on how to increase their profits.

Representatives with the United Soybean Board hosted a meeting about soybean quality. Experts told attendees that better soybean quality improves demand for U.S. soybean meal. This better demand can then increase the price farmers receive.

Lanny Ashlock, with the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board, said "sometimes we're so concerned with producing the crop, we take it to the elevator and we're through.  Well, there's buyers out there that are really producing protein and oil and the quality of the protein is important.

Robert Stobaugh, Director of the United Soybean Board said "I found it encouraging that they had really good questions to ask. So, that means that they are thinking along these lines. And, as you know, anytime you have something in the marketplace that would have a tendency to make you more money then your interest level will grow."
