TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local police officer had two guns and other items stolen from his car overnight, and police are trying to find those responsible.

A Fostoria Police officer's car was parked outside of his Toledo home near South Detroit and Oxbridge roads. The officer woke up Thursday morning to find his car window smashed, and several items taken. A bag, one of his own guns, one of the department's guns, his wallet and his police badger were all missing.

Toledo Police are now trying to figure out who is responsible. They say tips and a watchful eye from neighbors can help prevent something like this from happening again.

"That's why it's very important that people in the community keep a look out and notice if people are going around, up and down your street, maybe see if they're looking inside of cars," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan of the Toledo Police Department.

The officer's wallet and badge were dropped or discarded, and found by a student walking to school Friday morning. The student turned them in, but the two handguns are still missing.
