(CNN) - This has been such a brutal winter season for many parts of the country. And in many places it's not over yet.

One often over looked area that gets beat up in all this cold? Our cars.

AccuWeather put together a list of the biggest ways the cold can damage your car.

First off is your battery. Anything below 30 degrees takes power from your battery.

You can check the health before it dies by getting it looked at by a mechanic.

It can also harm your car's fluids. We're talking oil, anti freeze, brake and transmission fluids.

At 35 and below, the cold thickens those fluids, causing them to not flow as easily.

Your tires are also at risk. For every 10 degree drop in temperature, your tires lose one pound per square inch, under inflating your tires. This makes you especially vulnerable on icy roads.

Spark plug reliability is an issue in the cold and causes your car to not start.

Two big things can help avoid many of these problems: parking in a garage and getting regular maintenance done on your car.
