Robocalls result in Arkansas Senate phone jam

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - Phone lines at the Arkansas Senate were jammed for several days because of a glitch in a computer-dialed political message..

Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families hired Eton Inc. to make between 1,000 and 1,500 computer-dialed calls per day, with a recorded message about the private insurance option that's pending before the legislature.

The caller ID on the calls showed up as the Arkansas Senate and gave the chamber's main phone number. The problem began last week and lasted through Wednesday.

Little Rock television station KATV reports (http://is.gd/qHl4VF ) many people missed the calls and dialed the Senate to find out what they missed.

Senate director Ann Cornwell says the volume of calls was overwhelming.
