WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 police officer was charged with both fraud and possession after he was arrested Friday morning.

In an affidavit, Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce said a detective with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department spoke to administration at the Walmart in Walnut Ridge about forged prescriptions. They thought a police officer was forging them.

A jail inmate had filed a police report after he claimed someone was getting prescription medication in his name.

Investigators found that on the same dates the man was in jail, there were prescriptions filled using his name at the Walmart Pharmacy in Walnut Ridge.

Patrolman Shaun Allen was seen in the surveillance video picking up prescriptions for hydrocodone and methadone.

The affidavit said that at the Prescription House Pharmacy in Walnut Ridge, Shaun Allen also picked up the prescriptions and paid cash.

The detective on the case noticed that the fonts on the prescriptions were altered.

On February 19, Sexton’s Pharmacy told investigators they filled a prescription under the name of the inmate. When Allen got the prescription he told the pharmacist, “He was picking them up because he [the inmate] was in jail.”

A similar case was reported at the Walmart in Pocahontas on August 30. Allen picked up prescriptions of methadone and hydrocodone under the same inmate name as the other incidents. Allen paid in cash.

The affidavit said that on October 2013, a prescription was filled under the inmate’s name and picked up by a uniformed police officer.

A warrant was issued for Shaun Allen’s arrest on a probable cause. He was charged for controlled substances, fraudulent practices, possession of controlled substances, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with purpose.

Allen was released on bond and has a scheduled court date.
