Drunk driver wrecks into power pole

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Power lines draped over Willet Rd. in Jonesboro after police said a drunk driver hit a pole Monday night.

According to Officer Brain Arnold with the Jonesboro Police Department, a white Ford Taurus traveling north on the road was speeding and lost control in the curve. The car went off the road and struck a power pole, snapping it in two.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, Sandra Collings,33, was drunk.  Before they could get her out of the car, officers and firefighters had to wait for CWL to disconnect power to prevent danger. While waiting, police saw Collings take several drinks from a large whiskey bottle. She later passed out. An empty prescription pill bottle was also found in the car.

Some homes along the road lost electricity because of the accident. CWL was on the scene to restore the power.

Collings was sent to St. Bernards Medical Center for further treatment. Police say that Collings cursed and screamed at the hospital, refusing to receive help from anyone.

She was charged with DWI, disorderly conduct, careless and prohibited driving and driving while license suspended.
