Juvenile arrested for Manslaughter in Beauregard boy shooting death

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

A 14-year-old male has been arrested for the Dec. 30, 2013 shootingdeath of a 10-year-old boy in Beauregard, Ala.  

Authorities say the investigation has been ongoing, and apetition was issued earlier today, Feb. 28, charging the youth withManslaughter.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones toldNews Leader 9 in December that The young victim, his 12-year-old brother, andtheir 14-year-old friend had returned from a hunting trip, and were in abedroom. 

At the time, it was reported thatone of the boys was putting his rifle away when it accidentally discharged andstruck the 10-year-old in the head, killing him instantly.

The mother of the victim and another boy were in the kitchenof the home at the time of the shooting.  

The juvenile suspect has been taken into custody. A hearingis scheduled in Lee County Juvenile Court to determine further action in thecase.

Juvenile court proceedings are protected and confidentialunder Alabama law.
