HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A 99-year-old veteran was recognized for his service during World War II at Redstone Arsenal on Friday.

Representative Howard Sanderford presented Robert "R.C." Adams with a resolution by the state legislature honoring him.

Sanderford served from Aug. 1943 to Jan. 1946. He was part of an all-black unit sent to Normandy, France, three days after the bloody D-Day invasion.

Before retiring, Adams was a building contractor, had a 35-year career with Community Action Agency in Huntsville and started Adams Taxi Service. He was honored as Alabama A&M University's oldest living alumnus in 2008.
