GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

The beautiful weather was a perfect back drop for the thousands of people that came out to participate in the 45th annual Krewe of Gemini parade in downtown Gulfport Saturday afternoon.

The fun-filled day parade had revelers young and old out early, setting up to soak up some sun and catch some beads.

Michael Peleaz is from Gulfport, and came out to enjoy the afternoon with his family. None of his family are new to this type of celebration.

"We've been doing it for a while. We bring the kids out here to enjoy themselves. It means the world to them. You know, 50 cent beads bring delight to a kid's face," Peleaz said.

Little Landon says coming to the parade with his family is a special treat, but he does have one thing he looks forward to. I asked Landon what was his favorite part of the parade.

"I like when they throw the Mardi Gras beads," Landon said.

Riley says she enjoys catching beads thrown at her, but she says there's more to the parades than that.

"I like when the floats come, and I like the decorations on them," Riley said.

Peleaz has been coming to the downtown Gulfport day parade since he was young. He says it's always been a family friendly parade. Every year, seeing his children's faces light up keeps this event going as a family tradition.

"Going back to when I was a kid, it's always a family event, and after that you just pack up and go on and wait for the next parade," Peleaz said.

Even though the family says things don't often change in the parade, it's an event they just can't miss.

This year's Gemini King and Queen were Marvin Pearman and Cecile Scialdone.
