GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run which claimed the life of a 46-year-old Gaffney woman was arrested.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday off Hampshire Drive off of Interstate 85 Saturday night.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Tina Ann Miller of the Ivy Grove Residential Center was struck and killed by a vehicle after she had walked away from the assisted living facility.

"Video surveillance indicates Ms. Miller left the facility at 7:22 p.m.," Fowler said. "Staff members said she was trying find another resident who had told them she was walking to the hospital."

Nine minutes later, Fowler said a driver not involved in the collision called 911 after spotting Miller's body lying on the shoulder of Hampshire Drive just a few hundred yards from the facility.

"It appears she was near the center of the roadway when struck," Fowler said.

Miller died at the scene after suffering severe blunt force body and head trauma, Fowler said.

Bill Rhyne with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said an EMS medic canvassing the area noticed a metallic blue pick-up truck that fit the description of the suspect's vehicle parked behind the Gaffney Inn Sunday morning.

Rhyne said Troopers were able to locate the owner of the blue GMC pick-up and took Brandon Singleton, 21, of Mooresville, NC, into custody.

Rhyne said Singleton was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Detention Center officials said Singleton was charged with one count hit-and-run accident with death and one count failure to give information and render aid.

Singleton went before a judge at 9 a.m. Monday where he was denied bond.
