MENTONE, AL (WAFF) -

A fire broke out at the old Mentone Springs Hotel Saturday night. Witnesses said the fire spread to the White Elephant Antique Store building in Mentone.

Ft. Payne firefighters assisted Mentone firefighters in putting out the blaze. No injuries were reported.

According to the owners, both buildings are a complete loss.

The Mentone Springs Hotel was to celebrate its 130th anniversary this year, built in 1884. It was on the National Register of Historic Places, and according to the hotel's website, was included in the bestselling book "1,000 Places to Visit Before You Die."

The hotel was owned by two families. On social media Saturday night, they expressed their sadness about the devastation.
