Jonesboro woman injured in drive-by shooting

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-- Jonesboro police are investigating a drive-by shooting that sent a woman to the emergency room.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. Monday at the intersection of West Nettleton Avenue and Hester Street, near Annie Camp Junior High School.

The victim told officers she and a male friend had been walking to the Valero gas station when she noticed a westbound dark, 4-door passenger car slowly pass by.

The woman claimed she "didn't think much of it because of how slow everyone was driving on the ice."

A short time later the car returned, traveling eastbound toward her, according to the initial police report.

The woman told investigators she saw at least three people in the car. All were wearing bandannas over their faces, she said.

The victim then heard gunshots coming from the car and turned to run, the report stated.

She reportedly then felt a pain in her lower right leg and fell to the ground.

The woman told police as the car sped off her stepfather came around the corner on Hester and saw her on the ground.

He helped her into his car and took her to St. Bernards where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, according to the report.

The case has been turned over to detectives.
