Cancellations, delays ground Mardi Gras travelers at airport

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Flights scheduled at the Baton Rouge Airport are grounded due to weather conditions across the nation.

"The issue is with the hubs - Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte – the weather conditions there are causing the problems," Jim Caldwell, a representative for the Baton Rouge Airport, explained.

The Baton Rouge Airport reports that 6 flights have canceled so far today, and the remaining flights are experiencing delays.

"The terminal is full," one traveler told WAFB. "We were supposed to leave at 7:30 a.m. and there is still no departure time. No planes have taken off since we've been here."

Caldwell advises travelers to check with their airline frequently for updates. Conditions are expected to improve around 2 p.m.
