JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) — Arkansas State sophomore pitcher David Owen has been named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Sun Belt Conference Player of the week after his performance against Alabama-Birmingham last week.
Owen fanned 10 Blazers in 5 2/3 innings of work, but didn't factor in the decision after giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. His 10 strikeouts doubles his career-high and he became the first A-State pitcher to strikeout at least 10 in a game since Bradley Wallace fanned 12 in 2013. Owen has a 2-0 record on the year and ranks second on the team with 12 strikeouts.
The right-hander from Millington, Tenn., currently ranks 46th in the nation in victories and his 10 strikeouts were the most by a Red Wolves' pitcher this season.
The A-State baseball team returns to the diamond March 7-9 for a three-game home series against Creighton. For single-game and season tickets, contact the A-State Ticket Office at 1.800.ASU.Fans or visit tickets.astate.edu.
