After 4 seasons at Appalachian State, the school announced today that they will not renew the contract of men's head basketball coach Jason Capel.
In his tenure with the Mountaineers, Capel went 53-70 including a 9-21 record this past season. In 4 years as head coach, the Mountaineers went 32-38 in Southern Conference play.
His best year was his first year when the Mountaineers went 16-15 and 10-8 in SoCon play. The next 2 season, his teams would go 13-18 and 15-16.
Appalachian State was Capel's first head coaching job. He spent the previous year as an assistant with the Mountaineers under Buzz Peterson and that was his first and only year as an assistant coach.
This is the final season for Appalachian State in the Southern Conference as they will move to the Sun Belt Conference next season.
