NEWPORT, AR  (KAIT) – An industrial accident killed a 30-year employee of Norandal USA in Newport, according to Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas. A release from the sheriff's office stated Larry Ball, 56, of Floral was killed.

According to Lucas, Ball was injured at the facility and airlifted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he later died. The release stated Ball was pinned between two pieces of machinery after an aluminum rolling mill cradle opened unexpectedly.

Inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were on site Wednesday to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

John Parker, VP of Communications & Investor Relations issued this statement:

"Noranda has initiated an investigation to understand the cause of the incident and we have begun the process of notifying appropriate authorities.  OSHA inspectors are expected to be onsite today, March 12, 2014.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our employees during this difficult time."

The Newport facility manufactures light gauge foil for the flexible packaging market, insulation and HVAC markets, according to the company's website.
