"Queens" play exhibition game for CityYouth

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – 32 all-star volleyball players from across Region 8 will play in the upcoming Queens of the Hardwood game. On Wednesday, they had a chance to showcase their talent to CityYouth Ministries.

Seniors volleyball players from local schools were nominated to participate in the benefit game that will take place in April. The day was designated for them to register, take pictures and play an exhibition game in front of the students at CityYouth.

Kim Shumpert, Executive Director of CityYouth Ministries said the exhibition game is a way for the children of the ministry to witness the communities' care.

"The kids in CityYouth are going to learn a little bit about how the people in the community love to give back to them but more importantly, how they like to build good relationships with our kids and use their talents to make sure they're giving back to our kids," said Shumpert "They are showing them what they can become when they get older."

"Here, we have the best of the best in Northeast Arkansas," said Craig Cummings, Jonesboro Hurricane volleyball coach. "We're excited to get these young ladies here together and do something wonderful for CityYouth ministries."

He also said, "They get a chance to get on the court one more time and wear the uniform one more time and do something good."

After the games, the "Queens" signed autographs.

The Queens of the Hardwood game will be played Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at Nettleton High School Gymnasium.

A Kids' Clinic will take place from 4:30 to 5:50.

The game is to benefit CityYouth Ministries.
