JPD Reports: Suspect arrested on meth charges

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Jonesboro police arrested a Paragould man on drug charges following a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

Jamey Lee Hooper, 41, is charged with possession of methamphetamine or cocaine, less than 2 grams.

According to the initial police report, Hooper was stopped at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Matthews Avenue after he failed to dim his car's high beams to approaching traffic.

A K9 unit arrived at the scene and conducted a search of Hooper's vehicle.

The report stated the "dog alerted" on the vehicle.

The K9 handler searched Hooper's car and reported finding two small baggies of suspected methamphetamine "Ice" weighing 1.1 grams inside the window control panel.

Officers arrested Hooper and transported him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was held in lieu of bond for a probable cause hearing.

Other incidents reported between Wednesday, March 12, and Thursday, March 13:

  • A 35-year-old Jonesboro woman reported someone used her debit card number to make a $237.58 purchase at a Walmart store in Wichita, KS.
  • Daylan T. Washington, 19; and Jalessa Javon Cross, 21, both of Jonesboro were charged with shoplifting $1,000 or less from Walmart, 1815 E. Highland.
  • A 31-year-old Jonesboro woman claimed someone stole her debit card and made $3,700 in online purchases.
  • A 42-year-old Jonesboro woman reported to police someone used her iTunes account to make $189.20 in purchases.

Please note: The charges in these arrests are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
