BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – An attempt at freedom landed a man in a Region 8 hospital.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Cody Wayne Wadkins was injured when he scaled the fence surrounding the recreational area of the county jail.

Sheriff John Montgomery said his attempt was foiled by barbed wire at the top of the fence. Montgomery said Wadkins got tangled in the razor wire and suffered several cuts and injuries.

Wadkins was taken to the Baxter Regional Medical Center to be treated.

He is charged with attempted escape. He was already in jail on charges of felony fleeing.

Wadkins will appear in court on March 20.
