Men charged with meth in car bumper will remain in jail

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Tuesday, prosecutors revealed more information about two men charged with transporting nearly 20 pounds of meth in a car bumper from Mexico.

According to a Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force member, the driver of the car, Elieser Sandoval, told the agent he was being paid $2,000 to bring the drugs across the border.

Sandoval told agents he picked up his passenger, Victor Menera-Huato, in Houston.

Huato, who is an illegal alien, told officials he is an enforcer for the Mexican Drug Cartel and was along to make sure Sandoval didn't tell anyone about the drugs.

When the men were pulled over on Interstate 10 Thursday evening, the driver allegedly threatened a Gulfport police officer telling him, "You don't know if you are ever going to see your family again."

Officials said Sandoval then told the officer he was concerned about his girlfriend because people were watching over her in North Carolina to make sure he delivered the drugs.

A judge ruled the case will be turned over to a grand jury. Both men will remain in jail without bond until the jury decides if the case will go to trial. If convicted, the two men face anywhere from ten years to life in prison.
