VALLEY HEAD, AL (WAFF) -

DeKalb County EMA Director Anthony Clifton said a Chattanooga lab confirmed that asbestos is not present in a sample from Valley Head.

The wall sample was sent to the lab last week from Valley Head School. Emergency management and first responders had been called to the school due to mold concerns.

The superintendent laid out his plan to correct the problem at a meeting Monday night. School officials said there was good attendance.

Students were moved out of the high school building for their protection. Cleanup crews are planning to go in as early as the end of the week to begin work on the building.

School officials said they'll bring in portable classrooms, and between those and auxiliary buildings, there should be enough room for everyone.
