Region 8 communities receive millions to improve public housing

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Wednesday it was awarding more than $16.5 million to 105 Arkansas public housing authorities, including several in Region 8.

The grants, provided through HUD's Capital Fund Program, will be used to make major large-scale improvements, such as replacing roofs or updating plumbing and electrical systems to increase energy efficiency.

Those in Region 8 receiving the funds include:

  • Housing Authority of the City of Caraway $47,902

  • Housing Authority of the City of Dell $13,834
  • Housing Authority of the City of Heber Springs $78,449
  • Housing Authority of the City of Hoxie $20,383
  • Housing Authority of the City of Imboden $39,792
  • Housing Authority of the City of Lake City $41,909
  • Housing Authority of the City of Leachville $94,779
