Clerical error blamed for tax issue

JONESBORO, AR  (KAIT) – A minor clerical error may have led to the Second Judicial Drug Task Force being on the list of delinquent property taxes in Craighead County, according to the collector.

Shortly after a Region 8 News investigation into delinquent personal property taxes, the Second Judicial Drug Task Force noticed its name was on the list, however, the organization was given tax exempt status by the Craighead County Assessor's Office.

The assessment for three vehicles indicated a tax exempt status, but it was not filed in the computer system. Therefore, the organization is not required to pay the more than $200 property tax.

Since March 13th, Craighead County Tax Collector Marsha Phillips said the county has collected more than $38,000 in delinquent property taxes.
