Rams fans wreak "havoc" at Richmond watch party

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

VCU lost their race to the NCAA championship Friday night but at Buffalo Wild Wings in Shockoe Bottom, fans began camping out early in the day to watch the game.

Becky Mennetter and her friends got to the bar at 11:30 a.m. and stayed to watch every game on Friday's schedule.

"We're definitely basketball junkies," she said. "I played basketball in college with my friends and we like sports in general but during this time, it's all day, all night anything to do with basketball!"

As night came, so did the fans looking to wreak havoc! At one point, Buffalo Wild Wings reached capacity and couldn't let anyone else in. A line of people waiting stretched down the block to 15th street.

Inside the restaurant, VCU Senior Nina Badoe was watching her last season as a student before she leaves for medical school.

"It's a big deal," she said. "It's a huge deal. VCU is an amazing institution and the teams are amazing."

A sea of gold and black swept over the crowd.

"It's VCU basketball," said fan Sam Brown. "We don't have a pro-team here and they're playing at a high level season after season. So yeah, the excitement is still there."

But Richmond can't forget the orange and blue of the UVa Wahoos. While Cavalier fans were a minority at B-dubs, Cavs fans were looking to cheer their team on to victory.
