Mechanicsville teenager dead after a Friday morning accident

Posted: Updated:
HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

Hanover Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly crash that killed a Mechanisville teenager.

Deputies tell us at approximately 7:45 a.m. Friday they responded to the 4300 block of Piping Tree Ferry Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash. They say a 1995 Honda Accord was traveling west on Piping Tree Ferry Road near Old Church Road when it ran off the right side of the roadway, striking several trees and a wooden fence.

19 year old Joelle Howard, the driver and only occupant in the vehicle, was transported to VCU Medical Center by Virginia State Police Med-Flight. Howard was later pronounced dead.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, it was determined that Howard was not wearing a seatbelt.
