Nettleton thespian troupe to represent state in national competition

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – They may not be household names yet; but, Rita Johnson's theatre arts students are already stars.

And now the Nettleton High School Thespian Troupe is taking their show and their talent on the road.

In January, the students took home first place at the State Thespian Festival.

Their stellar performance of the one-act play "The Jack Tales" beat out 38 other schools and more than 1,000 other students.

Their performance was awarded "Chapter Select," the highest honor awarded to any thespian troupe in the state.

With the award comes a trip to the International Thespian Festival this June in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they will represent the state of Arkansas.

In addition to that honor, Alycya Thomas won "Best in Show" for solo acting. She and Tiffani Richardson, along with Shakur King and Charity Holmes, won superior ratings for duet acting.

A superior rating in group acting went to the troupe's performance of "Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon."

All-State cast members include Laura Browning, Logan Teague, Richardson and Thomas.

All State Crew went to Jessica Martin.

Jessica Gilmer was elected to serve on the student state board.

Troupe members include Alycya Thomas, Aaliyah Lenear, Laura Browning, Charity Holmes, Logan Teague, Hannah Driskell, Saxon McTee, Jessica Martin, Annika Howard, Nathan Liouh, Shakur King,Tiffani Richardson, Jessica Gilmer, Brittany Brown, Shannon Jackson, and Jansen Cullipher.
