JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro man initially charged with raping a young girl was sentenced Monday to 50 years in prison after agreeing to a negotiated plea deal.

Kevin Lee Maget, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault in the second degree.

Circuit Court Judge Brent Davis sentenced Maget to 50 years in prison with 265 days credit for time served at the Craighead County Jail while awaiting trial.

Maget was arrested in July at a home in the 3700-block of Griffin Street.

The 12-year-old victim told police she was in bed when Maget got in beside her and began touching her, the initial police report stated.

She said Maget then "stuck his hands inside her pants while asking if it made her nervous," according to the report.

Despite her asking him to stop, the girl reportedly said Maget continued to assault her.

The girl told investigators Maget eventually removed his hand then exposed himself.

When he stopped, the girl reportedly told Maget she was going to neighbors. She claimed Maget then "asked her not to tell anyone."

According to the report, the girl left the house and called police from a neighbor's home.

When Officer Scott Rose arrived at the scene, he said Maget "appeared to be very nervous and was shaking."

Rose also stated that Maget claimed "there were two sides to every story."

Officer Rose told Maget to stop talking, the report stated. He told the suspect to wait and speak with a criminal investigator.

The child's mother arrived at the home and was advised to take the child to a local hospital to have a rape kit test done, the report stated.

Maget was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was held without bond to await a probable cause hearing.

The child abuse hotline was called and the case was turned over to the Jonesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.
