PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

A Greene County justice of the peace will have a difficult time working with the county judge after he pleaded guilty to second degree battery Thursday.

Ronnie Wood, 58, of Paragould was sentenced to three years probation for his role in an altercation with outgoing Greene County Judge Jerry Shipman, according to documents filed in Greene County Circuit Court.

The altercation took place Jan. 22, 2014 after a heated discussion about road improvements. Shipman and Wood met at Phillips Auction Barn on Greene County Road 721.

Arkansas State Police then started the investigation, finding cause to charge Wood with battery.

Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Trail, who was assigned the case, charged Wood with a felony due to Shipman's age.

Wood will serve the remainder of the 2014 term until John Barr, of Paragould, is sworn into office on Jan. 1, 2015. Shipman will serve the rest of 2014 until Rusty McMillan is sworn in as judge in January.

Wood is ordered to pay more than $1,400 in fines and court costs. He is also ordered to pay more than $3,100 in restitution.

Wood is also ordered not to have contact with Shipman.
