WEST MEMPHIS, AR - Early reports indicate that voter turnout is heavy across Region 8 this morning, even if the weather isn't exactly cooperative.
Anita Griffin, a deputy clerk in Crittenden County, says the office registered more than 4,000 new voters and accepted more than 7,000 early ballots. A clerk for ten years working her third presidential election, Griffin says turnout appears headed for record levels. In Craighead County, early and absentee voting has accounted for more than 10,000 ballots.
In southeast Missouri, Dunklin County Clerk Charles Isbell says turnout is heavier than normal, even though it's raining. In Cape Girardeau County, Director of Elections Patty Schlosser says it's cloudy, with on-and-off rain, but the turnout's been heavy.
