Woman charged with negligent homicide appears in court

WALNUT RIDGE, AR  (KAIT) – A Pocahontas woman who is charged with negligent homicide appeared before a judge in Lawrence County Circuit Court Wednesday.

According to court documents, Andrea Spradling, 33, told officers she had been drinking before the accident.

Carmen Stayton was killed in the accident. Another person was injured.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Spradling told an officer she drank "a beer, one shot of vodka and a Bloody Mary." Officers also reported there were no skid marks from Spradling's vehicle, indicating she made no attempt to stop.

Police said Stayton was killed when Spradling's vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of Southeast Fourth Street and Highway 412 East. Stayton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spradling will appear in court again on September 18, 2014.
