JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Nettleton High School senior joined a history of only 15 other black women Saturday.

Adrianna Dodson is this year's recipient of the Sonja D. Williams Scholarship, a gift from the Jonesboro alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The award is based on scholarship, school involvement and service to the community.

The selection panel said Dodson was the perfect candidate. She will graduate with a 4.0 GPA and has always played a significant role in her school and community through extracurricular activities and volunteer work.

Dodson said this hard work definitely paid off.

"Focus on school and stuff because there's so many scholarships out here," Dodson said. "You just have to focus in school and get good grades. You'll be rewarded for that."

The $500 scholarship will pay for Dodson's books her freshman year.

Dodson said her college decision is still unknown at the time, but she wants to pursue a pre-law degree.
