Cowboy Up For CASA held at NEA Fairgrounds Saturday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The 6th annual Cowboy Up For CASA was held at the Northeast Fairgrounds Saturday night.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. The advocates volunteer their time to serve children in Region 8.

"It's the biggest fundraiser that CASA does for Northeast Arkansas," said Donna Lamb Bowyer, CASA Executive Director.

Bowyer said CASA works on behalf of more than 600 foster children in Craighead, Greene, Clay, Mississippi and Poinsett counties.

"Our organization hasn't been able to serve them all, in fact not even half. So this gives us money to train more volunteers to serve more children."

People got to have a night of fun while helping the children. There was music, barbecue, a barbecue contest and bidding for a good cause.

"There is a silent auction with over 200 items. There's a live auction with 20 items or so, including wonderful artwork, a Disney vacation."

"We raised about $37,000 last year and we hope to do even better this year."
