HORSESHOE BEND, AR (KAIT) – What started as a vehicle in the road, turned into a drug arrest in Horseshoe Bend.
According to the Izard Count Sheriff's Department, a deputy responded to a vehicle obstructing traffic south of the Strawberry River Bridge April 10. While attempting to get the vehicle towed, the owner James N. Leis of Franklin came to the scene.
According to the sheriff's department, when Leis got out of the other vehicle a small pill bottle fell on the ground. Leis tried to hide the container that officers stated contained meth.
A K-9 unit alerted to an illegal substance inside the vehicle Leis was driving. Two smoking devices were located.
The sheriff's department stated Leis tested positive for marijuana, meth, and oxycodone at the time of his arrest.
Leis, 50, was charged with possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia with purpose to pack, store, contain or conceal meth.
Bond for Leis was set at $20,000. His is in the Izard County Jail.
