JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-- The former wife of a Region man convicted of kidnapping and murdering a young neighborhood girl now faces felony charges herself.
Tonya M. Smith, 41, is charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, two counts of causing a child under the age of 13 to view/listen to sexual activity, one count of causing a child over the age of 13 to view/listen to sexual activity, three counts of child enticement and two counts of failure to protect a child.
According to police in Beloit, WI, Smith is accused of forcing three children—ranging in age from 10 to 17—to engage in sexual activities with strangers and with each other.
Court documents filed stated Smith, who is formerly from Senath, MO, would engage in sexual activities with different men with the children in the room.
She is also accused of providing a live video stream of the various sexual activities to a man she knew only as "Alan."
Smith reportedly denied receiving any money for the activities. Instead, she claimed "Alan" promised to introduce her to another man she knows online as "Ronald."
In their interviews, the children told police Smith "would give them $100 each to do what "Alan" wanted them to do."
If convicted, Smith faces fines of $10,000 to $100,000. She could also be sentenced to anywhere from 6 to 40 years in prison.
Smith is the former wife of Shawn Morgan of Senath.
Morgan was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year for the 2011 kidnapping and murder of his 3-year-old neighbor, Breann Rodriguez.
Following his arrest for the crime, Tonya Morgan filed for divorce and restored her former name of Smith.
