Event hopes to promote working towards energy independence

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – An event held in Jonesboro on Friday hopesto promote alternative fuels in vehicles.

The alternative fuels "Ride and Drive" took place at theArkansas State University-Newport campus in Jonesboro.

Mitchell Simpson is with the Arkansas Energy Office and said theevent gave people the opportunity to come out and experience alternative fuelvehicles, such as hybrids, electric, or propane powered vehicles.

"They were very inquisitive about the technology," said Simpson. "[We]had a lot of input about it and they think it's great that we are working. Thecountry as a whole is working toward energy independence."

The Ride and Drive event was scheduled in five different placesacross the state.
