MYRTLE, MO (KAIT) – Authorities in southeast Missouri are searching for a man they say stole an Oregon County Sheriff's Office vehicle and drove it into a river.

According to the sheriff's office, Jeffery Wegener, 26, of Platte Center, Nebraska stole the patrol truck at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

He then drove the truck into the Eleven Point River at the Stubblefield access, according to the sheriff's office. Wegener was not at the scene when the truck was found.

Wegener is 6'0" with brown hair and green. The sheriff's office says he is possibly armed with a machete.

The Oregon County Sheriff's Office urges residents of Myrtle, MO to lock their homes and vehicles.

If you see Wegener do not approach him, call local police or the sheriff's office at (417)778-6611.
