Brookland students place in statewide essay contest

BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT)-  Two Region 8 students are at the top of their game. Two Brookland Middle School sixth graders placed in a statewide writing contest.

Students Lotti Hoffman and Aisha Mahmoud entered an essay contest featuring the theme, "How Tobacco Effects Me."

Lotti says it something everyone should learn about. "It's not something people really need to do and it can cause a lot of pain," Hoffman said. "It hurts you and it could lead to cancer and it's just something people need to know about so they could help stop it."

Aisha wrote her paper on a comparison between the smoking in America to Africa. The Brookland Middle School student said the experience was eye opening. "I learned a lot by participating in that contest. I learned how lucky I was to live in America. How they are more anti tobacco campaigning," Mahmoud said. "I was less likely to be hurt by smoking."

Lotti placed 1st and Aisha placed 2nd.
