Saucier, Miss. (AStateRedWolves.com) – Senior Easton Key completed the Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championships' second round in second place to lead Arkansas State, which shot a 299 Tuesday at the Grand Bear Golf Club to place it tied for eighth with a combined 601.
Despite cutting three strokes off its first-round total, the Red Wolves dropped two places in the standings after finishing Monday's competition tied for sixth. A-State is currently tied with Troy and trails seventh-place Louisiana-Monroe by only one stroke. Sixth-place UL Lafayette holds a six-stroke advantage over the Red Wolves, while Georgia State leads the field with a 576. UT Arlington is in second place with a 578 and South Alabama third with a 584.
Key carded an opening-round 69 before coming back today with a 71, which gave him a 140 total and moved him from third to second place. He trails leader Stuart Smallwood of Texas State by four strokes entering tomorrow's third and final round.
Also competing for A-State, Sean Brock is tied for 31st place with a 152 (77-75) and Seth Garner tied for 44th with a 153 (79-74). Chance Holden and Matthew Loiacano both have a combined 157, which places them tied for 44th.
