Paragould water park repairs may delay opening

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT)- The Paragould water park may not be open in time for Memorial Day weekend.

Paragould Park and Recreation is making repairs to the pools which could put them behind.

"We felt like now is the time to do it before we ran into problems with the plumbing," said Pat Austin, director of Paragould Parks and Recreation.

With Memorial Day just around the corner,Austin said she's hoping the repairs will be done in time.

"We've had some problems with the corners of one of our pools has dropped about 3 inches," she said. "They're preparing to go in put some micro-pilings underneath to lift it and raise that so we will have a level pool so we can stop having the runoff that we've had."

The runoff causes puddles in certain spots around the pool.

"I know that folks are afraid that we won't be open, if all goes well we will be open Memorial Day weekend," Austin said.

And if not, Austin said it will be soon after that.

"We've been open 9 years and it's not something that happened all of a sudden, it was a gradual thing that happened to us," she said. "We felt like it was the time to go in and repair the pools before we did more damage that would cost us more money to repair this."

Once construction is complete, staff will start preparing the park for opening day, which includes painting the pools. Austin said they will also have to push back the parties.

"What we're going to do is push that date of the booking of the pool parties back until we see where we are," Austin said.

Austin said they book parties every night except Sunday from June to mid-August. She said the project should be complete in 2 weeks.
