SHARP COUNTY, AR  (KAIT) – A man wanted for murder and aggravated assault in Texas was arrested in northeast Arkansas, according to Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts.

According to Counts, Danny Mitchell Cannon, 55, of Clyde, Texas was arrested Wednesday near Milligan Campground Road, west of Strawberry. Counts said a concerned citizen called Arkansas State Police, stating that Cannon was looking for a place to stay and did not want to talk to police.

Cannon was taken into custody without incident, and was found with a loaded gun. An extradition hearing was held Thursday afternoon at the Jackson County Jail, where he waived extradition.

According to a release from the Baird City Marshal's Office in Callahan County, Texas, Cannon is a person of interest in the murder of a 51-year old woman. Police said the woman was shot multiple times Sunday afternoon.

Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas said authorities in Texas are currently making arrangements to bring Cannon back to Callahan County.
