Fatalities, damage reported from Sunday night tornadoes

JONESBORO, AR  (KAIT) – At least 16 people have been confirmed dead from a series of dangerous severe weather in Arkansas.

Those who died as a result of the storms include 10 in Faulkner County, five in Pulaski County and one in White County according to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.

Damaging winds, heavy rain and tornados hit parts of Region 8 hard late Sunday night. 

The fire chief of Vilonia said a tornado caused widespread damage and multiple casualties. Jonesboro E-911 Coordinator Jeff Presley said five Jonesboro police officers have been sent to assist in the recovery effort in Vilonia.

Damage reports in Region 8 have been minimal so far, but heavy flash flooding is expected.

    Three juveniles were arrested over the weekend after they fired a shot at a police detective during a vehicle break-in, Searcy police said Sunday. They now face an attempted murder charge, among others.
