Bono Bypass Opens for Travel

November 8, 2004-- Posted at 6:00 p.m. CST

BONO-- The Bono bypass division of the Arkansas Highway Department's Highway 63 project is open for travel.

The project was completed as an effort to rid Bono of traffic congestion and excessive speed on the roadway.

While the bypass is not yet complete, city officials say the two lanes opened are indicators of the project's success.

Chief of Police, Rick Duhon says the project is expected to ensure the safety of those who travel through Bono.

"The enormous traffic flow, congestion, accidents, you know, pedestrian wise...it is going to be a lot safer," Duhon says.

Joe Barnett of the Highway Department also expects great change from the project.

"It will be more convenient to get around Bono. It will be faster to get around Bono, and it will certainly be safer," Barnett says.

The additional lanes, North and South bound, are expected to be complete by the end of the construction season.
