"Stamp Out Hunger" collects thousands of pounds of food

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-  Stamping out hunger was as easy as visiting the mailbox.

UPDATE: 27,232 lbs. were collected Saturday for the "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign.

The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas teamed up with local mail carriers to make donating as easy as it could get.

Executive Director of the Food Bank of NEA, Christie Jordan, said, "we have a bright orange bag that you should be getting in your mailbox if you live in the Jonesboro area. You can just put your canned goods in this. If you have so many that it won't fit all in this one bag, that's fine. Just put it in or near your mailbox."

A mail carrier then picked up the donations.

The orange bags were delivered to mailboxes the week before the campaign. If you missed out on donating Saturday, just leave canned goods in the orange bag near your mailbox on Monday and mail carriers will help bring the donations to those who need them.
