ENID, Okla. (HardingBison.com) - Four Harding baseball players received honors Friday as the Great American Conference released its postseason awards at a ceremony at David Allen Memorial Ballpark, where the GAC Tournament begins Saturday.
Harding senior first baseman Matt Calhoun was named to the 1st Team. Senior outfielder Trent Wooldridge and sophomore starting pitcher Collin Campbell were named to the 2nd Team, and senior Logan Holthaus earned honorable mention.
Calhoun, a native of Searcy, Arkansas, was the first Harding player to earn 1st Team All-GAC honors in the conference's three seasons. Calhoun led the Bisons in most offensive categories including batting average (.372), home runs (5), RBI (38), on-base percentage (.452) and slugging percentage (.561).
A native of Paragould, Arkansas, Wooldridge hit .331 with a .433 on-base percentage. Wooldridge had a perfect 10-for-10 stretch late in the season that included a GAC-record six hits in a game against Ouachita Baptist. Wooldridge led the team with 41 runs scored and 27 walks.
Campbell, a native of McCrory, Arkansas, was Harding's top stating pitcher. He had an 8-2 record and a 2.70 ERA. He won seven of his 10 conference starts, which included three shutouts.
Holthaus hails from Winona, Missouri, and had a 5-3 record and a 4.56 ERA. Four of Holthaus' wins came in conference games. He tied for the team lead with 71.0 innings pitched and 12 games started.
Northwestern Oklahoma State slugger Jonathan Freemyer, previously a First-Team All-GAC basketball player, earned Player of Year; Ouachita Baptist ace Davis Ward repeated as Pitcher of the Year. Southern Arkansas outfielder Trevor Rucker became the third straight Mulerider to garner Freshman of the Year honor and Arkansas Tech's Dave Dawson, who led the Wonder Boys to a 41-8 mark, received the GAC Coach of the Year award.
