Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Flying out of Evansville just got easier for business and leisure travelers.

14 News first reported Sunday night that Evansville Regional Airport is adding three daily flights to a major hub.

American Airlines is adding three daily round-trip flights out of Evansville Regional Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina. From there, they can connect to more than 120 destinations.

Monday's announcement means Tri-State travelers now have access to more than 600 daily flights at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport - that includes international travel as well.

Starting on October 2, passengers can book flights to Charlotte at 6:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 7:00 p.m.

Flights will be operated by US Airways Express affiliates on Bombardier regional jets.

"It's easy to say, 'We need more air service in our community'.  I hear it all the time, I hear it from business executives who need to get their executive teams in and out of Evansville.  I hear it from tourists who want to fly on vacations out of Evansville, but it's difficult to do.  This is really important, 3 flight to Charlotte on a daily basis, it's huge.  It is really huge.  It gives people so many options, options that we do not have today," said Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke.

American Airlines will also add round-trip flights between Fort Wayne and Charlotte.

Passengers will be able to book flights from Evansville to Charlotte beginning this Saturday, May 10.
