MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) – A Baxter County man is in jail on drug charges after police said he tried to register as a sex offender.
Mason Alexander Grant, 25, of Mountain Home was arrested on May 2.
Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery said Grant came to the sheriff's office on that day to register as a sex offender when he was arrested. Grant was on parole after being convicted of sexual assault in Greene County. As part of the conviction, he was required to register as a sex offender.
During the registration process, officers found Grant had driven himself to the sheriff's office on a suspended license and he was arrested.
Grant was searched and officers found a "small amount" of suspected methamphetamine in his shirt pocket as well as drug paraphernalia, according to Montgomery.
Grant was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He is being held without bond for parole violation.
He will appear in court Thursday.
