Aguilar sentenced to 28 years for 1992 murder

HALE COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

The Plainview Herald reports that Jose Aguilar, 41, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the 1992 murder of Guadalupe Fraire. He will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.

Authorities say the two got into an argument at a roping arena, and Aguilar shot Fraire.

They say Aguilar then spent more than 20 years on the run, until U.S. marshals arrested him last July in Colorado.

The Plainview Herald says it only took a Hale County jury 20 minutes to convict Aguilar.
