SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Springfield Local Schools Superintendent Kathryn Hott has resigned her position with the district.

Hott's resignation was announced after an executive session school board meeting on Tuesday.

Hott has been with the district for 26 years. She will leave Springfield Local Schools at the end of the month. Hott says she is retiring for family reasons.

Hott released the following statement:

My 26 years with Springfield Local Schools have been wonderful. I love the students, staff, families and community. It has been an honor to be part of this great system.

I am eligible to retire through the State Teachers Retirement System. I will continue to serve as SLS Superintendent through the end of May and then for family reasons my retirement will become effective June 1, 2014.

The district released the following statement:

Kathryn Hott will be retiring as Superintendent of Springfield Local Schools effective May 31. We would like to thank Kathy for her many years of service to the District. We appreciate the work she has done for Springfield Local Schools and with her the very best as she begins new adventures in her life.

Hott says her resignation is not related to the district's upcoming levy on the August ballot.

Assistant Superintendent Mike O'Shay will step in as interim superintendent on June 1.

Parents say they're sad to see Hott go.

"That, I think, is kind of the wrong thing to do. She should have stayed. You know, to take care of the levy and stuff like that," said one parent.

"I think she's done great for the school system. I mean, everyone is going to have their own thing to say here and there, and some people aren't going to like it, and they're going to be negative, but honestly I think she's done great for Springfield," said another.
