Hidden danger around site where Ariel Castro held hostages for years

A 19 Action News investigation has found a hidden danger that hasn't gone away.

It still lingers even as we mark one year since three women and a child were found alive after spending years as hostages in the home of Ariel Castro.

We found 60 sex offenders just within a mile of where Castro held the women in chains. This problem of sex offenders in the neighborhood came to light when he got caught. It hasn't gone away.

Last year, investigators also convicted another predator who'd lived in this same neighborhood.

Elias Acevedo went away for multiple rapes, and two murders.

On the website for the Cuyahoga County Sheriff, we saw four registered sex offenders still within a quarter-mile where Castro lived, and dozens of others nearby.

Investigators say many sex offenders live there and a in few other pockets of the city, in part  for cheap housing.

The neighborhood around the old Castro home is changing, but the hidden danger of sex offenders is the same.
