Midland, Mich. (MILB.com) -The Dayton Dragons posted their second straight shutout victory and fifth shutout win of the season as they defeated the Great Lakes Loons 1-0 on Tuesday night. The win was the Dragons third straight and improved their record to 19-12. They remain in first place, one-half game ahead of the West Michigan Whitecaps.
Dragons starting pitcher Daniel Wright (2-1) was outstanding, tossing five and one-third innings of shutout baseball to earn the win. He allowed five hits but no walks and struck out six. Wright retired the first two batters in the each of the first five innings and lowered his 2014 earned run average to 1.67.
The Dragons scored the game's only run in the second inning when Joe Hudson lined a double to the left field corner, took third on a single with two outs by Julio Morillo, and scored on Carlton Daal's single off the glove of the second baseman. The Dragons did not have a base runner after the third inning but relied on their outstanding pitching.
